Been awhile...

Hey everyone!
   It's been years since I've posted on this site..  I was in bed the other day thinking about this blog. It got me stoked to come rewatch and look at photos. I recently started filming skating again before winter came and ended up with a little video. It's approximately 5-6 days of filming skateboarding at the parks that we have around Sudbury. Just a fun little video but check it out! Can't wait for next season. Going to be a good one.

Don't call it a comeback.

Here are some photographs I took of Scott Varney, in chronological order, going from point A (The Baitshop) to point B (Jacqueline Moleshi's house, Scott's girlfriend) during early/mid November of 2012.

 So we/I have been away from the site quite a bit/while but we/I are all doing separate things now-a-days. It's not that we've grown up, I sure haven't at least and don't plan on it anytime soon. It's not that we've moved on, well maybe to a certain degree; but we all still skate - which is why this site was created - and that's what counts. With this post I just want to wish everyone the best with their new adventures and say thanks for the formative years we all had together.

You can catch up with some of the stuff I've seen on Pointless and it'd be rad to see you post anything related to you're current situations too, skate related or not. After all: we all came from the same place so it's all relative.

Chapter the Last

WOW what a short story! .. not. So I've been off my computer the last little bit, and just getting acquainted with the city - Well I was when I had initially started this (my second documentation of mtl) but then I got distracted with life. I've come to realize that there are spots on spots in downtown Montreal. It's sick! The city in general is, however my one complaint is about the food prices. Like there are a million shitty places in Toronto to get too much of something  for 5 bucks. Then again I am not a local... But luckily both Hugo and Kyle (MacDonald) advised me on the cheap eats at Dagwoods*. Everywhere else seemed to automatically come up to 10 bucks or more.

Thursday was a rain day so I had to be a tourist. With may the 4th just passing and the Centre des sciences de Montreal having a Star Wars Exhibition I couldn't resist. It was snick. Friday, uh I forget Friday, no wait.. I ended up skating just above downtown. Around the McGill campus**. I honestly worked the shit out of myself skating this city and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Now the weekend, well things got trill.. Had another killer skate during the afternoon then headed on over to Parc La Fountaine to finish the session with a few brews. By far the easiest way to get to know the Montreal homies is to hang out at that spot. Anyways so there was a Palm Isle 12 year anniversary jam this night and a pre drink bbq at Adam (Green), Josh (Clark), and JS (Lapierre) They're definitely sitting on some prime real estate and Adam's got a rad dog named Jazz. So we went to the bar crew deep after slowly leaving their house, trying to get like ten plus drunk dudes to leave sometimes is hard. This was not the case for the night considering the alcofuel empty and the pitchers were only 12 bucks at the bar. Sunday started slooooooowww, can you guess why? If so let me know cause I can't remember.. Woke up above the sheets fully clothed (better then stark naked, especially when sharing a room with 12), you know those type of nights. Ended up not having a hangover though so I got more skating done and went yet again the p.laf to cap off the weekend. The weather was unfuckwithable and the usual suspects rolled through the park.

Montreal's a big city, and I didn't realize that, I'm actually pretty ignorant but I've got street smarts. The people are nice and friendly, for example they look you in the eye when they pass by on the sidewalks more often then not, un-like Toronto. I got the understanding that the general public live a care free lifestyle over here. It's good shit..

I miss you mtl! Your cheap beer, friendly people, laid back lifestyle,  good (but rough) spots, poutine and but of course.... your smoked meat.

À la prochaine!

P.S. delayed post due to going to Detroit on may two four (which I was under the assumption would be this weekend, you know, having passed the actual date of the 24th and all.) Will I post about it? Probably not.

*  The server there was a friendly fellow but I knew there was something off about him that I couldn't place.. But at last it surfaced the second time we met.. "did I show you my roller-blades last time" enough said right?

** Fixing that crack at the bottom of the double down hubba is always an option.... or not.

Chapter the First

Alright so I'm doing it (posting again) and what have I got to tell you... Well I checked out some live music last night at Le Bobards which is a sweet-modest-sized-bar, they have an excellent layout with the bar being accessed in the middle at all sides (hats off to the two ladies behind there, just killing it,  and never ceasing to move.) I couldn't tell you the bands name but they kicked out the jams and for what it's worth they're the house band for every Tuesday night, I think..

Oh yeah, randomly ran into Hugo (Balek) last night whilst I was just roaming the neighbourhood, and he grabbing papers (you know for paper work) to go the Clifford's (Geoff) place and do... business stuff..... We exchanged digits and skated today. We'll be meeting tomorrow too. So big shout out to Hugo for showing me around!

The big session ended when the rain came but thankfully the benches at Parc La Fountaine are moments away from my hostile. So as the saying goes "when one door closes another opens" and on my way back I started a new session that goes a little something like this:

The Poutine Chronicles

So I’ve arrived in MTL, things are looking good (weather aside..) because I’ve already come across two classic spots of the Quebec scene, whoah... I totally just took in that I’m in another province, I mean it’s not like I crossed a boarder and had to make nice with blue dudes so it kinda just passed by unnoticed (especially for the fact that I was working at sleeping a hangover from the night before off.)

After getting a coffee at the terminal, lurking the internet and sobering up I decided it would probably make sense to see where my hostile is located. Sure enough it’s only around the corner, shwing! And if it wasn’t raining you can be damn sure I’d be skating.

Oh yeah, so incase you’re wondering, its just me and my skateboard and we’ll be fucking shit up for 8 days here..

I got my ass hear real cheap and highly recommend you doing the same cause the girls are nice and they're adorable with there accents. Let’s hope I don’t blow it - or do depending on how you look a that. I’ll post more as time comes, or not?

Video Yayze

Street skating is at a halt, sort of.. Not sure about you guys but Toronto has had plenty of days you can bundle up and hit the dry dirty downtown or wherever. But for the most part skateboarding is on the back burner, unless you're traveling like the Toronto crew currently in SF, or like Morgan Smith in Spain for his DC trip, but i digress.. The point is that it is a common Canadian practice to dust of those megabytes during the winter months, which is what I did. Originally I was going to finally make that second SF edit then a full Toronto edit, but tables: they turn sometimes.

Tom approached me with doing a double header premier at Opera Bob's, and I thought why the hell not! Him and I were aware of this lovely establishment through the triple header we saw about a month earlier, which included: James Theom's Con Leche (no internet link available, that I know of, please link it in comments if there is) Ian Duke's Flipomatic Immunity Vol. 1 (p.s. you should lurk that blog hard) and Jeff Comber's Smoke Break.

So here is that video I made of leftover SF footage along with things shot in the GTA. It is a long butt-fucking awesome capture of the good times had over the past year and a bit (I need more Sudbury footage for the next one). Oh and of-coarse Tom's video should be viewed and praised by all. All hail Tom Berry.

A Lesson to Be Learned

So things are starting to slow down...

Yesterday I was roaming the internet and doing my regular - skate websites I enjoy following - following up. I got up to snuff with them but wasn't satisfied yet with my skate smutt.. So I got so ambitious as click yet another link off the side of the site I was on and found this..

So basically this is what all you razorfiends should be setting your standards to, exhibit A: Boulon, and not this guy..

Boulon kills it for many reasons.. For starters look at the dudes kit - some gnarly cross trainers, gray sweatpants (but not too baggy), obligatory courier satchel (great for keeping any extra swag in there [ex: a lacoste crew neck sweatshirt] and not giving you back sweat which could lead to backnie or, depending on the severity of the backnie, cracknie), a very fitted polo shirt w/ not one but two chains visible and a perfect set of grills and bad-ass attitude to complete this Euro-trash look.

Furthermore he allows those in which we shall not mention to skitch his rig - I'm sure he presented the idea to other extreme sport enthusiasts (perhaps even to a scooterer/scootist (sp?) BAH! the hilarity of seeing that), but they knew better... He rips the fucking legendary bowl of Marseille, he's got foot plants and airs to crotch smash on lock and despite the lack of airhorns he rips to we be steady mobbin.

Enough said. Happy Saturday guys, hope you can find your lines between the scootards at the park today.

SONY VX2100 + MK1 INTERMEDIATE SET UP FOR SALE

Unfortunately I have to sell my camera because I need money for school in September. Today it has been sent out to have the heads professionally cleaned. After that it should be good as new. Not sure when I'm gonna get it back but I'm putting this up now in case the buyer needs time to get the money. When I get it back I'll be putting it up on ebay and some other sites, but ideally I'd rather sell it to someone locally. Here are some pics of everything to be sold:

California dreaming on such a winter's day...

So yesterday, in Toronto, the weather has decided to show as many sides as possible. In less then 24hrs it was cloudy, sunny, windy, it rained on and off and snowed here and there.. Whatever, the bad weather got me thinking about sunnier days of the past. As you may or may not know I went to SF last year and made sure to do all things necessary to go back again this year.

The crew was large, across the boards were: Alex Varney, Alix Buck, Ben Buchenauer, Ben Locke, Beth Nenniger, Brandon Shepherd, Drew Williams, Duncan McNaughton, Eric Stuhlmacher, Ethan Kilgour, Ian Duke, Jacob Jurkiewicz, Matt Smith, Steph Bouchard and Mr. Tom Berry.

Spots. Spots! Spots!! Spots spots!!!! Everybody!

So I was in Sudbury last week and it was evident that you'll be able to shred the entire (current status: partially cleared) park soon, but more importantly you'll be able to hit the streets! For those of you who are naive and in disbelief to the fact that there is street skateboarding to be had in Sudbury then this post is for you (and of course to add to the believers'[sp?] library). Without further a-due here are some spots to skate rape:


Pearl St. Ledge.


LCBO Ledge. This has been waxed in the past so I really don't get why it's not now. Fuck, the sidewalk even got re-bricked like last year!


Fire Station Philly Step.


Arena Pop-out Ledge.


Tom Davies 3up 3down.


Llyod St. Philly Step. There is ancient wax markings visible on this one so go give it some TLC.


Notre Dame Bank to Ledge.


Paris St. Ledge.


Notre Dame Drop Down Ledges.This has been re-done and is now poured concrete. If you don't know what that means it means go skate it..


Notre Dame Kicker. This store has a nice brand new super mellow handy ramp with no guard railing. Not sure if that is to code but I'm sure we don't care.

So there you have it 10 spots that vary in skateability but are non-the-less spots. I will leave you with these things to consider, choose when you go to the spot wisely. For example that LCBO ledge would be good to go after 6 because that's when it closes, that drop down ledge is not something you hit during rush hour, and any spot that was in front of a residence you'd want to hit during weekday business hours. Just use common sense and respect the spot, accept getting the boot when it occurs, and leave with out saying anything because arguing is completely pointless when both parties have no understanding of one another. Oh and don't fucking litter, respect the environment because you're going to be part of it someday!
