Lo Def
I'd like to take this space to direct everyone to something awesome in skateboarding.
Jeremy Elkin' newest video, Lo Def, is a low budget, short, gritty, 12 minute long free production featuring some of Canada's raddest dudes.
Riley Boland is easily one of my favourite skaters in Canada right now. He's creative, talented, gnarly and looks like a pussy, all things I like in skateboarders. Most of all though, he's an eccentric weirdo hippie who skates lots of tight tranny. And his bomb drop into the big O is unfuckwithable.
Josh Bos skates like he's Bobby Puleo but with spots that aren't as cool. Good part visually, although it's technically very lacking. Please note that Bobby Puleo can still lack all the technicality he wants, he'll still be forever awesome.
Hugo Balek seems really annoying, but extremely gifted. His ollie with that bonk off the chain was so cool.
Seb Labbe is skilled beyond reason; see his sequence in the newest Color for proof. There's, however, some kind of generic weirdness about him that makes him difficult for me to swallow. He would fit in well with all the current Krooked ams, which is appropriate considering he rides for Krooked flow. It's just strange to see someone nollie tre a set, then do a line with a 5-0 on a stair and a back 180 into a cellar door, and then do another line that starts with a nollie flip noseslide. His last two tricks are still mind boggling, despite my distaste.
This is probably the best video I've seen in a long time. Nothing has been this fun to watch, or this inspiring to go out and create something, in a long time.

Riding Walls
Wallrides are, like...gnarly. There's no other way to describe them.
This dude totally isn't.
This post is in celebration of going vertical, not half assing it down some slope on a longboard and full pads.
Seriously, who the fuck does this kook think he is?
Isaac did this wallride in a neighbourhood we were advised to leave before it got dark.
This really couldn't be any gnarlier. Out of a rough rock, onto the wall, and then back in fakie...Cards would be proud.
I know this is going to get James hyped, but probably not as much as he was when he was boosting these stratospheric wallrides.
Finally, an ancient wallride done by a then miniscule Potter.

Sudbury's Greatest Misses
While searching through the greatest misses archives, I came across some epic but forgotten bail shots, along with some other noteworthy misses.
Corey often has a God-delusion, alluding to his clear mentor, Christian Hosoi. Here, Corey rips Christian off with a Christ Air like pose.
Devin doing some coping dancing shortly after Fully Flared was released. Videos influence the kids.
Rather than a stairway to heaven, Jeff took this 50-50 straight to hell.
This miss is only accentuated by the bum sleeping in the background.
Harry was getting out of the way of my sequence. Luckily, he made the shot even better.

Peter Stankiewicz's Greatest Misses
We all know I'm barely a competent photographer. I don't really know what I'm doing and I kinda squeak by on good photoshopping and fancy lighting.
Sometimes, you just can't polish a turd. So, without further ado, I present to you, the biggest airballs I've ever shot.
Nice angle for this backside 360 off what looks like a curb. At least you know it's his backside.
I chipped my tooth while skating a ledge spot. Really, really great miss.
This one's a two parter. First I almost get hit. Then I stay safe and blow the photo.
I'm not going to actually comment on these.

Potter's not drunk?
I made this a long time ago but had forgotten about it.. mainly because I had already used this song in another video.. the Matt's mini ramp one.. but oh well.. This was the day before I had left for North Bay and also due to the fact of Potter drinking a little bit too much he fractured his wrist with that last bail.
enjoy.

Ignorance is Chris
I've been spending a lot of time with Chris Marleau lately. Consequently, I've seen him do a lot of stupid things. (see School Days)
Starting off...Chris was so hyped on landing his trick, he had to make sure I got the sequence.
The Chris-Beam.
After jocking the beam so hard, Chris tried a new sport - something between football and skateboarding.
Chris going long and hard.
Here's an old one from our trip to Houston. Chris stretching for a banger?
Click for sequence. Seriously.
But he's not all bad. He's done some cool things lately.
Feeble pop over to hill bomb.
Backsmith to art-fag.
Abstract back lip.

Online Flash Games are the new skateboarding
It seems like no one has posted anything for a while. I'm going to assume everyone's reason is the same as mine: online flash games.
Ginormo Sword is an extremely addictive game where the only real objective is to get a big sword and harm bad dudes.
Fantastic Contraption is physics game where you have to get a red ball into a red square. Not that hard, but lots of fun.
I really wish I did more with my life.

School days
Septembers back, that means less skateboarding and more book learning.
Luckily, Toronto has a new Sudburian skate transplant - Chris Marleau.
Chris meets a new friend at Bickford Adult Learning Centre.
Little Daniel was in town for some pre-collegiate skating, and couldn't get away from schools anyway.
Bunh buhhhhhh. Pop shove at UofT.

Missed Connections
Upon coming home from San Francisco (photos soon, I need to get them developed and scanned) I got a call from Andrew, who told me that Potter and Jeff had come to Toronto for a few days. Excited as ever to shoot with them, I met up downtown that evening. Nothing especially exciting happened that day, and we all agreed to meet up early the next day and shoot some more. Immediately following that, I get a call from Isaac telling me to meet him and some other Kitchener dudes about, so I do for the rest of the evening. They had in tow, two yanks with planks, a spanking duo named Justin and Ben, from Detroit (if you're reading this, let me know). You can find some photos from their journey up here on Will's blog. All around, they were a great couple dudes who will hopefully come around in the near future.
Anyway, next morning, we meet up and start getting busy downtown. Everyone seems to have ideas of what they want to get for the day, so we get busy.
Wingardium Leviosa - Potter's secret to floating big gaps to lipslides.
After day two finished with a sudden outburst of torrential rain, we headed back to Andrew's place to rest for the night and our planned final day of skating.
The next morning we wake up, go downtown and then take the train to Oshawa to skate the newly erected Courtis Park, aka, Robbie Pointek park. It's right down the street from Randy's house and in his little time in Oshawa he's gotten pretty good at ripping the shit out of it.
Randy looks like he's going to shit on a dick - Lein to tail in the deep end of the penis bowl.
After we were done with the park (and the residents of Oshawa) we hopped on a bus to catch the final Go Train home, only to find out that it went by before we could get there. Incredibly hyped, we head back to Randy's house with plans to wake up early and catch the train the next day.
Ever shinned yourself on coping? It sucks. Kyle knows.
The crew, hyped for one more day in the 'shwa.
As luck would have it, none of us woke up early enough and Jeff and Potter ended up missing their bus home, again. I haven't seen them since and can only assume that they have been decapitated on a Greyhound somewhere along the line. Hopefully their footage makes it home, at least.

Toronto Trip "The worst best trip ever"
Shawn decided that for the long weekend we should plan a skate trip to Toronto, which I was so down for because this summer has been so dull and it's sort of a tradition for me to go to the big T-dot at least once a summer. Shawn ended up gathering Me, Jamey, Wayne Porter, and Westley. Luckily we had Andrew Campbell who let us stay at his house for what was suppose to be 3 nights but ended up being 4...
You're probably wondering why I have "The worst best trip ever", well a lot went wrong while we were in Toronto, for me, I had a staff meeting and I missed it so now I am going to be jobless at the end of the summer but that's pretty minor compared to what happened to Shawn and his car. First thing is we park the car near the CN tower and went and hit up a bunch of spots all day, and after like 5 hours of skating we go to the car to get some dranks and what not and then we realize we don't have Shawn's car keys anymore which was really shitty, we checked every skate spot we went to and did not find them either, so we had to train it everywhere for the rest of the weekend, which is probably what we should have down from the beginning, but yes, we we're suppose to leave monday to go home but stop in Brampton to skate the new park but we couldn't due to the fact we were key less and Honda was closed, being the long weekend, so thank god Andrew let us crash at his house again even though he had to work early the next morning. So then early tuesday morning Shawn, Westley and Jamey took off to get the car towed to Honda to make there special key needed, which wasn't cheep. Thats not all though.. on our way home in Barrie we we're cutting through a parking lot to hit up McDonald's, as we were pulling out we ended up driving in which seemed like a sidewalk but ended up being a deep hole where sidewalk was suppose to be, so that did some damage to the bumper of Shawn's car.. slacking construction people had no signs up or anything and it was also pissing down rain at this time. One thing I have to admit though, is Shawn is a champ, for everything that happened he still laughed in the end which is sweet.
Good news though, is we all had a blast in Toronto.. word up thanks Shawn!
p.s. in like a month, you should expect some north bay footy to be thrown up on hurrr

Do The History
This past weekend, Devin and I were in MTL for the KNOW?SHOW, a skate & lifestyle trade show where we got to see and do a lot of cool shit. Friday night we went to a party in the back of a parking garage which opened up into a room full of collectible vehicles. I'm talking old police motorcycles, and a straight up race car... the kind with the wings on them, not that Ricky Bobbie shit.
Anyway, that night, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a guy with super thick glasses on. Influenced by an open bar and big city mystery, I crept over and said "Hey man, do you always skate the Big O?" He said, "Yeah man," pretty enthusiastically. The conversation went on about skating, and it turns out thick glasses man, a.k.a. Barry Walsh, knew where Sudbury was. I knew this because when I told him I was from there, he said, "Oh yeah, the dime or something?" I said, "Nickel, but close enough."
Enough random dumb talk, check him out skating the Big O, think to yourself how good he is, and then when you actually skate it someday, realize how good he is.

Thanks to Frank's
This post is in sincere dedication to Frank's energy drink.
Seriously. It tastes just like RedBull, but with a sweeter aftertaste. Plus, it's a dollar cheaper, and we got some 2 for 1 coupons making it, like...a good deal. And it comes in Lime and Pineapple. So feelin' it right now.
Tonight, me and Andrew were skating around, and stopped in at the local 7/11 for some liquid Frank. Upon both downing the small cans, we skated the bay inwall ledge for hours, in a surprizingly fun session.
Andrew, 5-0 in a tight spot.
Peter, back 180 nosegrind, 180 out

Change yo'self
Over the past few weeks I've worked on a little mini interview with Change Skateboards, to put up on their blog. It's finally up and looks pretty good. Take a look if you've got a minute to read through some long winded answers.

While I'm linking to other skate blogs, I've been really feeling Police Informer, and the Chrome Ball Incident. They're two blogs on roughly the same subject matter, 90's skateboarding. Both worth killing time on.

And to make this a worthwhile post, here's a sequence of Andrew doing a classy yet dirty polejam.

You can stand under my umbrella.
Daniel came to visit and we had a fun couple days, despite security, blazing hot weather, and endless missions to nowhere.
Rain was impending the whole time, and we wanted to get busy.
Daniel ollies at a police station before the rain hits.
Dan, being the trooper that he is, didn't let the rain stop him from skating buttery Toronto spots, so he did some tricks with wet griptape.
Kickflip with Jon lurking hard
Front board in a dirty, wet, stinky alleyway
And, for a new twist on things, I got a sequence!

Don't Miss Out
http://www.actionsportsart.com/about.html
This goes out to Peter for getting hand picked by an elite panel of photographers to participate in an anual show of "action sports art." They're printing photos BIG, (3 feet by 2 feet) on transparent film, with lightboxes behind them, giving them a glowing feel.
Peter was invited to show a photo. The opening Gala is on July 2nd, and it's at the Steamwhistle Brewery Gallery in Toronto. It'll be showing until July 30th.

Congrats Pete

Blast from the Past
Ruben Bullock has really made me think about my own skateboarding lately. He's an interesting individual with some almost excessively philosophical views on life, skateboarding, and the connection between them.
In the interview above, he talks about people living in the past, and recreating the past. In contrast to that, I want to present one of the first skate photos I was really proud of. It's from the first few days of the skatepark being open, and it's of everyone's favourite park rat, Potter.
So much has changed since this photo. There's now grass instead of dirt, dirty graffiti covering the ledge, gross fences around the park, and no chance in hell of skating this ledge, which now works better as a lurkers bench. Walter isn't in town to come by to watch on the sidelines and Potter is no longer little boy status, although I think he still wears the same clothes as in this photo. I no longer have the camera setup that took this picture, and I probably wouldn't shoot the same way again. Technology made me lazy.
Without getting all emotional about photographs, here it is.
